How can i make my oil painting dry faster?
Im working on something, and its due on Monday. I will be painting it again tommorrow- Thursday. So it will have about 3-4 days to dry, but oil paint usually need longer. I don’t think i can mix liquin into the paint because i already painted most of it. So is there any way to speed it up? Shoul i dry it with a dryer. Should it be in cold places or warmer places? Could i bake it or put it in the fridge? o_o Any good suggestions will help :]
Oil paints straight from the tube should be dry to the touch in a week, depending on ambient temperature and humidity, and on the color used. An alkyd medium will speed drying, but alkyds also yellow, so don’t use too much. Don’t bake your painting, don’t hairdyer it and don’t put your painting in cold places. Cold retards the drying process. Put your canvas in a dry warm room. But from what you say your picture is due in 3 – 4 days. This should be enough time for the painting to be tacky or even dry to the touch. Don’t use re-touch varnish if your painting is still wet. Using too much of Spray Re-touch varnish can cause the pigments of your painting to run. DO NOT use brush on re-touch varnish if your painting is wet or tacky. Brushing on the varnish will destroy your painting as it will smear the pigment on your canvas! I should know, I did this and learned the hard way.
