I do I become a game reviewer for a magazine?
I’ve been wanting to work for a gaming magazine for a long time now. I love reviewing games, and I believe I’m pretty good at it. I’m also experienced in doing visual arts, advertisement, and public relations, plus I can speak 3 languages. I’m not aiming for those big gaming magazines. Just here in South East Asia. Do you think I have a shot? Or are there some details I’m missing?
any help would be great. Thank you!
If I were you I would start reviewing every game that came out and start a blog. Put some time into advertising it and place adds on it; then once it has some sort of following (this could take a few months depending on how much time and effort you put into it), send some articles to your magazine of choice (or multiple mags) along with your resume. If you have a following already, it’s beneficial for the mag to take you on because they might gain your fans as readers. In the very least, they might have you feelance for them, so you could be paid by the article, which in my book, would be pretty cool.
Also, to be a great candidate, you want to be informed on not just one genre of game – reviewers are paid to be on top of kids games, fps, rpgs, puzzle games, simulators, everything. And they are fairly knowledgeable about the companies that develop and release the games, their histories, their future projects, and the technology they utilize. If you already are at this level, then I say go for it! But if not, it’s something you can work on in the mean time.
Good luck!!
