What extra curricular activities look good on college applications?

I’m only a freshman, but I want to get a head start and some ideas. I am in the art club, I volunteer at The Civic Arts Plaza (usher), I take an out of school art class (been taking it since 3rd grade).

What are some other good extra curricular activities (art wise, or basically anything that will help me get into one of the top art colleges out there?)

And as for subjects: Right now I’m in Honors English and the rest are CP. (I am so far getting A averages, and plan to do well for the rest of the year.)
At the first answerer: Of course I enjoy doing it!!! :) I enjoy basically anything extra curricular! Especially things having to do with art! :D

As far as your classes go, you should try and challenge yourself. Colleges are more impressed by low A’s in Honors and Advanced Placement classes than they are by a 4.0 if you took mainly CP classes.

Extracurricular activities- you should do what you love, and commit to it. It’s better to join one or two clubs/participate in 1-2 activities and excel in them than join a bunch of clubs and do okay in them. With art, just practice, practice, practice, and try and get others to criticize your work so you can improve. By the time you start applying to college, they’ll want to see a portfolio (examples of your best work) and it would definitely help if you’d won some awards in art competitions.

At Colleges of the Arts, they’re really looking for stand-out talent, and they want to see that you’re already exploring with your ability (trying new techniques, varying your style, etc). Obviously, the better the school you’re going to apply to, the higher the quality of your art (and the better your grades) will have to be. You shouldn’t rely on your art alone, though. You might decide senior year that you’d rather be a scientist or something and if you’ve neglected your grades you’ll be out of luck as far as getting into a good school goes. Also, try and get involved with mostly art extracurriculars, but maybe one or two other subjects you’re interested in (community service is GREAT on a college app, especially if you’ve shown commitment to it).

After the roaring success of Wide Open Spaces–a blend of turn-of-the-century pop and country traditionalism–what do you do for an encore? Rather than deliver more of the same, the Chicks have chosen instead to up the ante in country radio with a follow-up that’s both poppier and twangier than its predecessor, and just plain better too. Some of it we’ve heard before: “Hello Mr. Heartache,” for ex…

compassion art

compassion art
Can anyone help me translate this hard english?

“The ferocity of Rembrandt’s brushwork sugget that the function of art is to transform mere flesh by the stroke of imagination, to wrest from the inevitable misfortune of humanity a certain dignity, even a kind of triumph. In the drama of light that pervades his art, he assserted both the psychological complexity of a profoundly individual personality and a more general, but deeply felt, compassion for humanity”

-Sorry it’s just hard for me to understand it

I think it means that Rembrandt has given the ugliness of humanity a certain beauty…”dignity”. He was able to keep it real (asserted both the psychological complexity…), but still had appreciation and “compassion” for mankind, even though it’s often times bitter.

That’s what it means to me, anyway.

Queen brought a whole new meaning to the phrase over the top.
