As an art form, has photography become overwhelmed by technology?
I am just looking for answers.
Actually, I think we are beyond the film canister thing now. Now we have HDR and Layer Filters.
y’know, when i was a wee lad and watching old mr. kay in his studio with that huge camera and all those glass slides i was in awe…and i also thought it was kind of cheating that he used paints sometimes to improve some of his portraits…mind you i was something like 5 years old.
today, the creative suites are so deep and involved that i’ll never get a handle on all of ‘em, i use the photoshop for minor tweeks and cropping, i try to get it in the camera as much as possible. but as an artform digital photography is every bit the art form that large format and glass slides are, just different. and sometimes different is difficult for me to accept. the artist still has to have a sense of color and balance and know a few things about composition, it doesn’t matter what programs or cameras they use, nothing can make up for good old knowing a few things.
