Need suggestions for setting up a learning area for my 2 year old any ideas?
I want to set up a small learning area in my dining room so i can start teaching my two year old and also allow him somewhere to be creative since it’s the only space available with no carpeting. Already have plenty of children’s books for him and he tries to read them. Also have a huge ABC poster that he is working with to learn his ABC’s and have tons of paints, crayons, markers etc. that i let him use. Don’t think it’s very necessary to buy an art easel b/c he has no problem using them as far as not painting/coloring on things he isn’t supposed to. So if anyone has any ideas on other things i could buy or use for this area please add your suggestions. I know maybe 2 is a little young to start teaching him reading but he seems like he really wants to read books so i figured i’d give it a try.
Here is a list of some things I have in my kids learning area. They are 4-2:
Calender-The say the day of the week, month, day, and year every day then put a sticker on the correct date.
A paper plate clock-I took a small paper plate and wrote the numbers on it. Then I cut two hands from paper and took a paper fastener and pocked it through the plate so the hands would move. My boys like to practice their counting with this as well.
Number Snake-I cut a bunch of different oval shapes from construction paper then glued them together in the shape of a snake and then wrote a number on each oval.
Color Caterpillar- I cut a bunch of different circles from white construction paper then had my kids help me color the circles different colors. Then we put them together in the shape of a Caterpillar.
Shape train-I cut different shapes from paper then put them together in the shape of a train and then hung it on the wall. I let my kids help color the train.
Texture blanket-I took a old sheet and glued on different textures like fake fur, sand paper, feathers, foil, dried leaves, etc. My kids helped me collect the items.
We also have blocks, magnify glass, homemade musical instruments, and a bunch of different craft supplies.
