Need ideas on how to arrange my loft!?
What I want and invision: Art studio because I paint, this will be the main purpose, but also an office area and hidden storage area.
What kind of stuff is up there now? My clutter over the years, my computer and desk, two bookshelves (floor to ceiling) one for books and the other for VHS tapes, my artwork (about 20 paintings), and storage bins of clothes and papers.
How soon does this need to be done? This week as I have a housewarming party in two weeks.
What type of answers would like? Photos and your great ideas on how to do this.
Please help, thank you.
I forgot to mention there are two sky lights side be side. This space will only be used for the art studio and office. The bed room is downstairs.
Go to Ikea with a list of the majority of the stuff you need to store. Ask a floor person to help you design a storage area for your loft. Make sure you measure your loft’s space first so you can have them handy to know the measurements you’ll have to work with. Ikea is great for creating really cool storage spaces with. If you don’t have a store near you , go to www.ikea.com and hopefully they’ll deliver to you. If not then steal ideas from their catalog.
I use to live in a loft and I loved it but not the noise. I hope your loft is insulated.
The couch is great to use to divide space. Don’t waste it by putting it against a wall.
Also, go to www.overstock.com and check out the canopy beds. I got a frame for under $300 and I love it. I got 3 king sized sheets to put on the front and back panels and then another one on top of the bedframe and then I got 2 queen sized sheets and used them for the side curtains. They can be cheap sheets but you may have to safety pin them or sew them onto the rods of the frame. I safety pinned and actually tied the ends on my frame.
It’ll give you a feeling of privacy in that huge space when you go to bed. I felt very vulnerable with no immediate walls around me while I was sleeping or when it came to nudge, nudge, wink, wink time. It gives a sense of privacy. And I highly recommend it for anyone living in a huge loft. (You could probably get plain sheets and paint cool pictures on the panels-how cool would that be?)
You say you want an art studio and an office. Use the back of the couch as a way of separating the entertainment area from the “art/office” area.
Put the side of your desk against the wall instead of the desk facing a wall. Then you can look out at your art studio from your desk and perhaps feel inspired. Have your bookshelves behind you so you can just roll back and get things as you’re working.
These are just some ideas I’ve come up with.
Oh yeah, get a couple of cool room dividers that you can paint on. That would be cool.
